BIOGRAPHY
Joris Van Zeghbroeck is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University. Their research focuses on assessing the social and environmental sustainability of local to global food systems. They investigate how international food trade impacts land use change and the cascading social, economic, and environmental effects. Their research hopes to identify the successes and challenges facing food systems of different scales and identify actionable solutions and policy measures to ensure that the global food system can feed the world while providing livelihoods and nurturing the planet. Joris has a B.A. in Environmental Physics from Pitzer College and an M.S. in Soil and Water Science from the University of Florida. Prior to starting their Ph.D. they developed, organized, and led educational programming for K-12 students across the country focusing on gardening, cooking, and invasive species education.
