Raymond Jussaume

Raymond Jussaume is a Professor of Sociology at Michigan State University. His academic background, and terminal degree are in Development Sociology. He is interested in macro level social change and how people at local levels can positively influence these patterns in order to generate beneficial and meaningful development outcomes. Early in his life, he spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Republic of Niger. He has lived and conducted field research in China, Japan and France. His research has always had a strong outreach component, and his work has stretched over a variety of topics, including agriculture, local agri-food systems, food access and community well-being. Much of Ray’s research is informed by theories of sustainable development. He is currently participating in an interdisciplinary research project on weed resistance, particularly in U.S. corn and soybean production systems, and agricultural sustainability. Ray was recently appointed Project Professor in the Center for the Promotion of Interdisciplinary and Research at Kyoto University in Japan.
