BIOGRAPHY

Dr. William Porter is the first Boone and Crockett Chair of Wildlife Conservation in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University. The Boone and Crockett Club is the oldest conservation organization in North America, and is dedicated to the conservation of all wildlife and their habitats. His research explores population dynamics and the behavioral ecology of wildlife in relation to habitat, emphasizing the application of ecological knowledge to management and conservation policy. He and his students focus on game-changing issues in conservation now reshaping wildlife conservation: land-use change affecting habitats, emerging diseases in wildlife, shifting patterns in weather and climate, and changing conservation policy. His teaching includes courses in leadership and wildlife policy at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Current courses explore the issue of wolf restoration in US upper Great Lakes and northern Rocky Mountains, and the role of leadership in ensuring a future for wildlife conservation.
