BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Wenda K. Bauchspies is an Associate Professor of Community Sustainability at Michigan State University and Co-Director for Center for Gender in Global Context. She coordinates the Gender, Justice and Environmental Change graduate specialization and teaches the theory and methods courses for this specialization. She is an interdisciplinary and international social scientist whose expertise lies in the integration of gender, social justice, and culture with agricultural research, science education and technological adaptation. In addition to doing research, she has administered infrastructure supporting research and education programs in science, technology, ethics, and society aimed at facilitating societal impact through productive interdisciplinary methods and engaged stakeholders in the creation and adoption of science and technology for a more sustainable future. During the course of her career, Dr. Bauchspies has held various positions that support, facilitate and/or implement interdisciplinary research from: Program Officer for Science, Technology and Society and Cultivating Cultures of Ethical STEM at the National Science Foundation and Senior Scientist of Gender at International Crop Research Institute of the Semi-Arid Tropics to associate professor of Sociology at Georgia Institute of Technology and assistant and associate professor of Science, Technology and Society and Women's Studies at Pennsylvania State. As a Fulbright Scholar at Julius Nyerere University of Kankan, Guinea, she designed, implemented and completed her favorite research and community engagement project to study how a mid-sized community met their needs for water, electricity, transportation, community and waste disposal by focusing on the gendered nature of the everyday practices and their impacts on the household and the environment. Dr. Bauchspies' PhD is in Science and Technology Studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
